Viewing Cooper Creek in Flood across Birdsville Track Easy
The recent floods in Queensland are resulting in the greatest flows into Lake Eyre since 1974 and large lakes will be formed where Cooper Creek flows across the Birdsville Track. This trip proposes camping on the southern shores of Lake Killamperpunna (Etadunna Station) with visits to the ferry site to see the sights there (sunset cruises, the old sheep crossing, etc.) and lunch at the Mungeranie Pub on the way to view the Warburton Creek on Cowarie Station.
[To view a map of the locality, search for “Cooper Creek Crossing Free Campground” on Google Maps, shrink the scale to 1 km and drag the map northeast to the large body of water there]
Kayaking, yachting and fishing activities are available.
Joyrides, either by plane or helicopter, will be on offer.
The likely dates for the trip are in late August/early September, depending upon other Club trips and the wishes of members who register their interest in going.
Although travel to the campsite will involve dirt tracks, the terrain will be relatively flat, so standard caravans will be able to make it to the uncleared bush camping area (no facilities).
