Visit to Old Morgan Quarry 4WD Training Ground

Medium to Very Difficult

The Old Morgan Quarry, located near the town of Morgan in South Australia's Riverland region, is a former mining site that is now a dedicated off-road 4x4 and driver-training area.  Use of the Quarry is free to clubs affiliated with 4WDSA.

If you wish to attend Please book a site at the Morgan Caravan Park from 7th August for a 9.30 am start in the quarry.

The site features steep, rocky climbs, descents, and uneven terrain perfect for testing off-road vehicles and appreciating just how capable your 4WD vehicle is.

The weekend will be an opportunity for drivers relatively new to four-wheel driving to learn and practice offroad driving techniques. Experienced 4WD drivers will be on hand to assist.

Members with a new car who want to become familiar with applying and appreciating its offroad features may want to come along too, together with those of us who just like driving our cars offroad.

Practice and learnings with recovery gear will also take place.

Unless you will be coming along just for the day, participants can stay at the Morgan Caravan Park, which is adjacent to the training ground.  NB: It will be necessary to book a site within the Park, say for Friday 7 August, ready for a 9:30 AM start the next morning and for the following night as well.

Dovetailing with this event is a separate trip ending in Morgan.  This is being organised by Mark Sheidow for those lucky members who can get away for a midweek break in the Riverland.  Keep your eyes out on Member Jungle for that, and separately register if you can make it.

If you do take part in Mark’s Riverland Ramble there is no expectation to drive your vehicle within the Quarry.  There are plenty of things around Morgan and its environs to enjoy and the usual club dinner at one of the local pubs on the Saturday night is a highlight of every Morgan weekend.
